Eldest son of Carlton R. and Sarah Phinney Dennis, was born in the town of Fabius, N. Y., October 3, 1892, and passed away at his home in Greensboro, Maryland on January 5, 1950.
Mr. Dennis spent his childhood and youth in the vicinity of Fabius, DeRuyter and Cuyler. In 1918 he was married to Helen Belle Woodhall. In 1919 they moved to Maryland. They resided in Chestertown for a year or two after which they moved to Baltimore where Mr. Dennis was employed as a street car conductor until 1924. At that time they moved to Greensboro, Maryland.
For several years Mr. Dennis operated a trucking business from Greensboro to Philadelphia handling live stock and produce. He established an enviable reputation for fair dealing and reliability. However the hard strenuous work of the trucking business brought about a physical breakdown from which he never recovered. He has been in failing health for several years. Raymond will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind, genial neighbor, who was always looking for the opportunity to be of service to the welfare of the community. Always cheerful and uncomplaining, a kind and loving husband and father, and a man who won the confidence and respect of all who knew him.
He is survived by a widow, two sons, Kenneth Lee and Charles Hiram; one daughter, Blake Shrand; three brothers, Leon J. of Cuyler, N. Y., Clarence W. of New Woodstock, and Ira of Syracuse. He was buried at Greensboro, Maryland on January 8, 1960. Friends from Detroit, Lansing and Muir, Mich.: and from Caasvine, Cuyler, New Woodstock and Syracuse, N. Y.; and from Marcus Hook, Pa ; and Wilmington, Del. were In attendance of the funeral, which was held at The Rawlings Funeral Home in Greensboro, MD.
