Sarah J. Stewart, age 84, of Tigerton passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at her home.
The former Sarah Jane Fletcher was born on August 2, 1932 in Ogdensburg, WI, to David and Jeanette (Poppy) Fletcher. Sarah graduated from Wittenberg High School and lived her entire life in the Tigerton / Wittenberg area. She was united in marriage on August 26, 1950 to James B. Stewart at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Tigerton. Sarah always enjoyed taking care of her family and was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother. Her husband preceded her in death on June 6, 2005.
She was a loyal and dependable member of St. Anthony’s parish where she helped with countless funeral luncheons. Sarah was also a member of the PCCW and volunteered much of time making quilts for the needy. Her other interests included sewing, crocheting, and cross-stitching to create lots of afghans and quilts for relatives. She liked watching the hummingbirds in her yard and working in the vegetable garden. Sarah cooked, canned, and baked the most delicious homemade bread. She will be remembered most for her sassy personality, her wonderful sense of humor, and her beautiful smile.
Survivors include five children, Debra Walsh of Anoka, MN, Mary (Dale) Harris of Tigerton, David (Susie) Stewart of Maurertown, VA, Dennis (Linda) Stewart of Birnamwood, and Marcia (Lloyd) Jolin of Wittenberg. There are dozens of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. There are two brothers, Cecil Fletcher of ___ and Sam (Arlene) Fletcher of Milwaukee. There are two brothers-in-law, Roy Seymour of Mesa, AZ, and Neil Neefe of North Dakota. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James, granddaughter, Tina Walsh, daughter-in-law, Carol Stewart, and several sisters and brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 28th at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Tigerton. Fr. Jose Castaneda will officiate and burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Friends may call on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of mass at the church. The Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Tigerton, is assisting the family.
