Richard G. Rutherford, 92, of Walton passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, February 3, 2015.

Dick was born on January 9, 1923 in the same home that he grew up in and later raised his family. He was the son of the late George and Olga (Bohlman) Rutherford. He graduated from Walton High School, class of 1942. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years the former Marian Sprague on January 7, 2009. They were married on October 31, 1948 at her family home in Downsville.

Dick proudly served his country in the 86th Army Air Corps during WW II, European Theater from 1942 to 1945. He was involved in setting up mobile control towers in England, France and Germany. He was employed by Runnell's Lumber Company for many years and later by Webb & Son.

He was an 80 year member of the First Congregational Church, often serving as deacon or trustee. He was an honary member of Walton Fire Dept., Walton Lodge # 559 F&AM, Walton VFW Post # 270, and the American Legion Post 32.

Dick enjoyed flowers and gardening, "Big Band" music, travel, camping, and woodworking. Most of all he enjoyed spending quality time with his family.

He is survived by his loving family, two daughters: Ann (Glen) LePinnet of Walton; Nancy Grotevant of Canadensis, PA; five grandchildren, Libby (Warren) Kelly; Chrissy (Marc) Evans; Jenny (Chris) Clark; Justin Grotevant; and Dylan Grotevant. And his great grandchildren: David, Josie, and Charlotte Kelly; Mayla, Nolan, and Cooper Evans; and Paige Clark. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Bessie and Eugene Dumond and his son-in-law Jim Grotevant.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Sunday afternoon, February 8, 2015 from 1 to 3 PM at the First Congregational Church, 4 Mead St., Walton. The service will be held at 3 PM with Dr. Janet Schwengber, officiating.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 11AM at the Walton Cemetery,
