Nelda was born September 26, 1926, to Annie and Bennington Robert Shippen in Menan, Idaho. Nelda grew up and attended schools in Menan and graduated from Midway High School.
After graduating from high school, Nelda attended Ricks College and graduated from Utah State with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
Nelda married Calvin Reed on July 16, 1947 in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. They were blessed with five children, four boys and one girl. Nelda taught 4th grade for 25 years in Rigby.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served all the women’s auxillaries. She served in the Idaho Falls Temple for many years.
She taught herself to play the piano and enjoyed sewing, watching sports, and was a big fan of her grandchildren. Nelda will always be remembered as an excellent homemaker.
Nelda is survived by her sons: Dennis C. (Sharon) Reed, of Pocatello, Randall S. (Shiela) Reed, of Rigby, Stanley F. (Lori) Reed, of Salt Lake City, UT, and Roger B. (Angie) Reed, of Las Vegas, NV; sisters: Ruby (Reg) Call of Tucson, AZ, and Twila (Tharin) Bigler, of Provo, UT; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Annie and Bennington Shippen; grandparents: Charles and Mary Shippen; a daughter, Janet Reed; four sisters: Gertrude Churchill, Verla Ball, Mary Taylor and Ava Hessing; and two brothers: Robert Shippen and Charles Shippen.
A viewing will be held at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, Monday, November 28, 2016 from 6:30-8:30 pm. A private family service will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel at 11:00 AM.
Burial will be at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery following the service.
