He was born Aug. 8, 1918, in New London, Ohio, to the late Benjamin M. and Mildred L. White Keefer and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of North Fairfield United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 503, Shiloh, and Firelands Post 2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Norwalk. He was a former member of North Fairfield Post 706 American Legion. He was a member of the Erie Huron Ottawa Service Center (Huron County Board of Education) for 46 years and EHOVE Board of Education for 30 years.
He was a farmer, had been an engraver of metals at Shelby Air Depot, and was a co-owner of Keefer Lawn and Garden Center in North Fairfield for 50 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, bowling, traveling, and entertaining his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Barbara J. Disbro Keefer; daughters and son-in-law, Marsha A. and Dr. David A. Jump of Willard, Cynthia K. "Cindy" Parrott and her companion, Shawn Smith, of Greenwich, and Cheryl S. Fry of Shiloh; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Ann Keefer of Norwalk, Benjamin and Gertrude Keefer of Willard, Bernard and Rose Keefer of Attica; sister, Virginia Dole of Norwalk; sisters-in-law, Virginia Keefer of Norwalk, Ramona Keefer of Norwalk, Marcella Keefer of Norwalk, and Joanne and Robert Smith of Willard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers and sister-in-law, Carroll and Geraldine Keefer, Lisle Keefer, Dale Keefer, and Maurice Keefer; sister, Bernadine Keefer; and one grandson.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, in Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, in North Fairfield United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Linda Masters. Burial will be in North Fairfield Cemetery.
