He married Billie Elizabeth Webb in 1949 and they lived in Austin, Elgin, and Webberville before moving to Rockport in 1967. He was an avid Longhorn and Cowboys fan.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years; his brother, Bill Loden of Port O'Connor; special niece Terri Loden Maxwell and her husband, Terry Alan Maxwell of Burnet; and special niece, Patricia Webb Cunningham of Burleson. He was a beloved and doting uncle who told many a story (and a few tall tales) to fifteen nieces and nephews, twenty-one great nieces and nephews, and numerous great-great nieces and nephews and leaves behind special and dear friends and neighbors. Pallbearers are Chad Maxwell, Chris Maxwell, Kyle Maxwell, Chris Cunningham, Scott Cunningham, and Sean Cunningham. The family also wants to thank the Rockport EMS and Police Department for their kindness and help at this difficult time. For those desiring, donations may be made in Richard's memory to the charity of their choice.
