Delaware was the son of Omega McMinn and Delaware Ballard Gardner. He was named after a brother that died prior to his birth. He was born while his parents lived in Hanover Va, However I am not sure if by midwife or at hospital in Richmond. Delaware married Helen Virginia Burley Jul 2, 1932 in DC. She was the daughter of Thomas Burley and Cora Lee Williams.He served in WW2 and worked as a tile mechanic in Richmond. He and his wife are buried in Burley family secton at Riverview Cemetery in Richmond Va.

His brother was Delaware McMinn Gardner b. Mar 19, 1889 d. Oct 12 1909 . I am still trying to find grave .
