Bruce Hansen, 61, a graduate of Mira Loma High School in Sacramento and a resident of southern California since 1980, passed peacefully from this life on November 15, 2016, in Sacramento from complications due to respiratory failure.

Bruce Hansen was born on September 12, 1955, in Santa Rosa, California, the third son of Leon and Charlotte Hansen.

He attended American River College and California State University, Sacramento. Mr. Hansen worked a short time for the California Department of Justice before entering the California Highway Patrol academy. He graduated from the academy in 1980 and spent over 25 years as a highway patrolman and training officer in southern California.

In 1990 he married Benita Kimmel and they have two children, Ryan and Alison.

As a youth Mr. Hansen camped with his family and the Boy Scouts and took long driving trips to Kansas to visit relatives. Bruce enjoyed spending time at Big Bear in So California. He was smart and had a dry sense of humor. Bruce was also a voracious reader and loved books on a huge variety of subjects. He was also a carrier for The Sacramento Bee. He was a dedicated father and loved attending his children's activities. He cared deeply about his siblings, nieces and nephews, and close friend Bruce Martin.

Mr. Hansen was preceded in death by his father Leon and helped care for his older brother Matt at his passing.

Bruce is survived by his son Ryan Hansen and daughter Alison Hansen, his mother Charlotte Hansen; brothers Mark Hansen and Neil Hansen; and sisters Gail Struble and Joan Blair and all their families.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 17, from 5:00 p.m. and a rosary will be said for Mr. Hansen at 6:30 p.m., at Lombard and Company Funeral Directors, 1550 Fulton Avenue, Sacramento.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 18, at Presentation Catholic Church, 4123 Robertson Avenue, Sacramento.
