Douglas Nelms

Douglas Nelms of Vidor, Texas passed away Saturday, January 6, 2007, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2006, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Officiating will be Pastor Michael Osborne of Family Worship Center. Burial will follow at King Cemetery in Hartburg. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Doug was born in Rodessa, Louisiana on April 1, 1943 to Belle Wall and Clyde F. Nelms. He lived in Deweyville most of his life. He graduated from Lutcher Stark High School in 1961 in Orange, Texas and joined the Air Force the next day. He took pride in his service years and was Airman of the month in March 1963 at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah and was named Airman of the year in 1963. He retired in August, 2003 from Temple-Inland, Orange. He worked as a millwright at the paper mill for 36 years. Doug was a member of Family Worship Center in Beaumont, Texas and loved his church family. He was a former board member of the Deweyville Independent School District.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Paul Allen Nelms and Billy Franklin Nelms.

He is survived by his wife, Emma Nelms of Vidor; sons, Thomas R. Boulet and wife Judi of Vidor, Gary D. Nelms and wife Cindy and Cody J. Nelms and wife Cassie of Deweyville; daughters, Rhonda Boulet Butler and husband Myron of Vidor, Felicia Nelms Johnson and husband Carl Allen of Deweyville and Regina Boulet Peddy and husband Danny of Vidor. Doug is also survived by his brother, Wade L. Nelms and wife Sandy of Deweyville; sisters, Wanda L. Nelms Jackson of Orange, Pauline Ashton and husband Joe of St. Louis, MO, Evelyn Pickering of Texarkana, TX and Jean Jester of Queen City, TX; ten grandchildren, Calida, Colby, Cole, Callie, Mahlon, Ashley, Nicholas, Cord, Tucker and Rhett. He leaves behind many brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews that he dearly loved.

Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Gomez, Larry Stringer, Frank Gore, Jim Anders, Charles Goldsmith, Clyde Taylor, Bob Parris and Raymond Barnes.
