Erick Erickson Boe was born in Aurdahl, Valders, Norway on June 22, 1847. He was the oldest son of Erick and Maria Boe. His early childhood and years of young manhood were spent in his hometown, where he attended the village school, and later helped his father on the farm.

At the age of 22, he felt the lure and promise of the New World and decided to try his fortune in the great western unknown. The trip was made via Liverpool on one of the old-time sailers and required nearly 13 weeks in the sailing. He landed at a Canadian port.

He first located at Grand Meadow, taking up a homestead early in June of 1869. Here it was that he "wooed" and won Johanna Swenson to whom he was united in marriage on 12/8/1874. Nine children were born to this union (one died in infancy).

In March 1878, they relocated to a farm three miles north of Adams, MN (Lloyd Uglum farm). They lived there until 1917 when they moved into the village of Adams, MN. They had nine children. Emma Sophie Boe was the third of the nine children.

Born Norde Aurdal, Valdres Norway, Son of Erik & Aavaak
