Oscar Carl Benson, son of Berdinius and Hannah Njos Benson, was born June 17, 1890, in Clayton Township, near Adams, Minn., and passed away on Wednesday morning, Sept. 11, 1957, at the age of 67 years, 2 months, 25 days.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Marshall Lutheran Church, Adams, and was a faithful member of the Marshall congregation all his life.

He remained at home and helped on the farm until the spring of 1936, after which he moved to Adams and made his home with his lifetime friend and companion, Nicholai (Nick) Helgeson, who preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 1954.

Mr. Benson was employed at the Anderson Hardware for the past 17 years, where he was a very competent and faithful employee. Oscar was always active in the affairs of the church and his community with his undying loyalty as a worker in the church, Ladies Aid, as a helper and waiter in all the extra church activities will never be forgotten.

He had been in failing health for the past few years. He underwent surgery at Rochester and had been a patient at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin several times. At the time of his passing, he was staying with his sister, Mrs. John Sathre in Austin, where he was being cared for by his three sisters.

He leaves to mourn his passing, three sisters, Mrs. J.P. Conlan (Mabel), Mrs. John Sathre (Bertha), both of Austin, and Mrs. Melvin Lewison (Josie), Adams. Other survivors are six nieces and eight nephews and a host of friends. His mother, father, and two brothers, Alfred and John, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 14, 1967, at 1 p.m. from the Adams Funeral Home and at 1:30 from Marshall Lutheran Church with the Rev. M. L. Witte officiating. Mrs Byron Huseby sang "There Is No Better Transfer," accompanied by Ida Anderson at the funeral Home. Mrs. Joy Nelson, Mrs. Herb Osmundson and Mrs. Henry Himebaugh sang "Hold Thou My Hand, Dear Lord" and David Gilderhus sang "Good Night Down Here and Good Morning Up There," accompanied by Mrs. Everett Boe, organist.

Pallbearers were Karl Kraling, Joy Nelson, Earl Osmundson, O.T. Anderson, Edward Anderson and Daniel Gilles. Burial was in the family lot of Marshall Lutheran Church. The Naomi and Martha Societies of Marshall Ladies Aid served lunch to relatives and friends.

Oscar died of cancer.
