Mrs. Hannah Benson was born in Sogndal, Norway on May 17, 1866. Her parents were Bertha and Johannes Njos. The family came to America when Hannah was 3 years old and located first in Rice County, Minn. A few years later she came with her parents to Mower County where they settled on a farm in Clayton township.

Her father was a charter member of the Marshall congregation and here she was confirmed and grew to young womanhood.

On May 15, 1887 she was united in marriage to Berdinus Benson, also of Clayton township. They began their married life on the farm which has since been her home and to them were born six children, three sons and three daughters.

Mrs. Benson was faithful and active member of her church, the Ladies Aid and community and was well known far and near for her unfailing hospitality. "The stranger within the gate" was as graciously served as her own loved ones. The Ladies Aid was ever close to her heart and generously gave of her time and means to the last.

During the last year and a half her health had been failing until on Oct. 7, 1935, she passed away, surrounded by all her children. Her husband preceded her in death, as did her oldest son, Alfred.

She leaves to mourn her loss two sons, Oscar at home and John at Austin, three daughters, Mrs. Jim Conlin of LeRoy, Mrs. John Sathre of Austin and Mrs. Melvin Lewison of Adams, also Nicholai Helgenson who has been one of the family for many years. Two brothers Ole, of Austin, Michael of Tacoma, Wash., and one sister, Mrs. Ole Viste of Princeton, Minn., 12 grandchildren and a large number of friends. Peace be with her and blessed be her memory.

Funeral services were conducted from the home Thursday at one p.m. and from the Marshall Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m., Rev. Alfred Breivik officiating.

Mrs. ? Breivik and Mrs. Herbert Osmundson sang a duet "Bedre kas Jeg ikke Fare" and "Softly the Daylight Fadeth" was sung by a quartette: Mrs. Breivik, Mrs. Osmundson, Rev. Breivik and Miles Otto.

Pall bearers were: Ben Underdahl, John Lewison, Henry Osmundson, O.K. Hegge, E.N. Viste and Andrew Ulven.

The floral offerings were many and beautiful and together with the large number of memorial wreaths gave silent testimony of the love and esteem in which she was held by her neighbors and friends. Interment in Marshall cemetery.
