George Leo Metcalf, 60, of South Jacksonville died Sunday morning, July 23, 2006 at Passavant Area Hospital. He was born December 7, 1945 in Decatur the son of George Emil and Viola Maronto Metcalf. He married Mary J. Buckingham on June 3, 1972 in Jacksonville, and she survives. He is also survived by one son, George Henry Metcalf of South Jacksonville; his mother of Jacksonville and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father. Mr. Metcalf graduated from Milliken University in Decatur with a Bachelor's Degree in History. He was employed as a Claims Adjudicator for the Illinois Department of Human Services. He served in the Army Security Agency a part of the United States Army from 1963-1967during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Church of Our Saviour, National Rifle Association, American Legion Post 279 in Jacksonville and the National Association of Disability Examiners. He enjoyed American History, especially military history, leatherworking, writing lymrics, poetry and playing the guitar and dulcimer. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2006 at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at 1 p.m. on Friday at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
