Fred G. Bekemeier, 84, of Reese, passed away, Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Cartwright Care Center in Saginaw.

He was born on January 9, 1931 in Reese, son of the late Fred and Emma (Bielert) Bekemeier. Fred married the former Marvel Young on August 28, 1954 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville. He attended Vassar High School and MSU Agricultural Program. Fred was veteran of the U.S. Army, life-long farmer and was also employed by Universal Engineering until his retirement. He served on the Blumfield Township Board of Review and was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church and served the Lord in many ways. Fred was beloved husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest joy was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, traveling and playing Euchre.

Surviving in addition to his wife Marvel of 60 years are his five children and their spouses; David (Cathy) Bekemeier of Frankenmuth, Dan (Gerri) Bekemeier of Frankenmuth, Ann (Dave) Findlay of Reese, Terry (Flora) Bekemeier of Munger, Mary Kay (Mark) Dittman of Richmond, MI; four brothers and one sister, Arnold (Deanna) Bekemeier, Irene Gohsman, Donald Bekemeier, Ed (Sally) Bekemeier, Ray Bekemeier; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Karen (Ed) Evans, Gary (Mary Lou) Young; 19 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Besides his parents, Fred was preceded in death by two baby brothers, brother-in-law, John Gohsman, brother and sister-in-law, Maynard and Gail Fackler and father and mother-in-law, Ervin and Etty Young.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville. Pastor Rob Gadeken and Pastor Wes Gillaspie will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Fred’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home 9940 Saginaw, Street, Reese on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church or the donor’s favorite charity.
