Andrea "Andi" Kay Mitchell, 53, of Hickory, passed away November 19, 2016 at Catawba Valley Hospice.

Born May 27, 1963 in Catawba Co, she was the daughter of Jim Mitchell and the late Ruth Benfield Mitchell. Andi graduated from Hickory High School, received a Bachelor of Science degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and pursued a career in sales.

Andi cherished her family, especially her close personal relationships with each of her nieces and nephews. The youngest of five daughters, Andi was a Daddy's girl. She strove to emulate her older sisters' successes while also carving out a name for herself with her own unique interests. Throughout her childhood, she loved horses and spent many hours with her friends at the barn, loving, caring and training her two prized hunter jumper horses, Mr. Reality and Bonnie. Andi was an over-achiever; she gave 150% to every endeavor as she loved making her family proud. Fun-loving with a quick laugh, Andi made many close friends wherever she went - even in the most adverse circumstances. She was a loyal friend; her ability to relate to others and allow them to share in her life was a true gift.

Andi was preceded in death by her mother and her brother-in-law, Ray Abernathy. Survivors include her father, Jim Mitchell of Hickory; her four sisters Denise Mitchell of Washington, DC; Cathy Leitch and husband, Jim of Mooresville, NC; Beth Crone and husband, John of Hickory; Lori Sadowski and husband, Joey of Hickory; by her nieces and nephews Brooke Spellman and husband, Patrick Urich of Peoria, IL; Rebekah Abernathy of New Orleans, LA; Rianne Burch of Phoenix, AZ; Bradley Leitch and wife, Lindsey of Stamford, CT; Bryan Leitch and wife, Kristin of Charlotte; Kevin Leitch and wife, Chanel of Charlotte; Will Crone and wife Lindsey of Raleigh; Andrew Crone of Greenville, SC; Chase Crone of Arlington, VA; Joseph and Nicholas Sadowski of Hickory; by great nieces and nephews Kate, Maggie and Ellie Urich of Peoria, IL; Kelsey and Nathan Leitch of Charlotte, NC.

A memorial service will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery Columbarium at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016 officiated by Father Ed Sheridan. The family will also receive friends from 12:30-2:00 at Bass-Smith Funeral Home prior to the memorial service.
