Sheila Brigid (Murray) Russell, died on March 19, 2016 in Columbus, OH surrounded by her children and her sister, Mary. Sheila was preceded in death by her husband Rupert Russell, and brother Mark Murray. Sheila is survived by her children, Christopher Russell (Susan), Anne Russell (Kevin) and Trudy Russell. Surviving siblings include Carol Fierschnaller and Mary Elabarger. Sheila delighted in her five grandchildren Meghan, Bridget and Derinne Callaghan, Jonah and Brigid Freed. Sheila was born in Fayette county Pennsylvania on June 26, 1932, the first born of Russell Francis and Gertrude (Brodigan) Murray. A graduate of Mercy Hospital nursing school in 1954, Sheila was a devoted nurse for 50 years, working in intensive and coronary care and as a Hospice volunteer. In 1955 Sheila married Rupert Russell and shared 54 happy years with him. Sheila loved dogs, especially German Shepherds, and adopted or found homes for many shelter dogs and strays. She loved gardening, decorating, and antique furniture. She expressed her love for family and friends through acts of service. She created beautiful, welcoming spaces for her family and friends. She was thoughtful, always remembering events with carefully chosen cards and handwritten notes. She cheered for the Steelers and Penn State. A funeral mass will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday March 23, 2016 at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 1420 Grandview Ave., Columbus, OH 43212, with Monsignor John Cody, Celebrant.
