Eastern Colorado Leader, Limon, Colorado, February 5, 1943, Page 1, Column 5: Well Known Genoa Man Dies After Lengthy Illness. I. P. Garner Buried in Genoa Cemetery Monday Afternoon. I.P. Garner, 79, Genoa business man for the past 20 years, died at his home in Genoa early Sunday morning, after being ill for more than a year. Immediate cause of his death was cerebral hemorrhage. He came to Genoa in November, 1919, and had engaged in farming, stock raising, real estate and the hotel business, as well as operating a coal yard at one time. He was one of Genoa's better known citizens and had always been one of the town's best boosters. Ira P. Garner, son of Henry and Tabitha Garner, was born July 15, 1864 in Stark county, Ill and died in Genoa Jan. 31, 1943. At the age of only a few months, he moved with his parents to Missouri, where they located in Putnam county. Mr. Garner grew to manhood in this vicinity, near the towns of Unionville and Milan. Here he engaged in the livestock industry and later moved to Oklahoma. In 1919, he moved to Genoa, where he farmed for a time, later moving to the town and engaging in business. He operated a hotel, real estate and insurance business until the time of his last illness. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Minnie Garner, Genoa; three daughters and five sons by a former marriage. These are, Mrs. Grace Morgan, Los Angeles, Cal; Mrs. Mabel McKibben, Sugar City; Joe H. Garner, Canon City; Mrs. Lena Henry, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; John N. Garner, Genoa; Fred W. Garner, Los Angeles, Cal.; James C. Garner, Tulsa Okla; George M. Garner, Los Angeles, Cal. In addition to these he is survived by a stepson, Emmett Smiley, Aurora. He has one living brother, who makes his home at Unionville, Mo. Mr. Garner was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Zelma Thornley and Mrs. Beulah Marshall, both of Tulsa, Okla. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, from the Genoa Evangelical church, with Rev. O. A. Galey in charge. Pallbearers were Dr. S. L. Shaw, F. G. Hobbs, Guy Black, William Hoffman, Noah Hunt and D. J. Flook. Burial was in the Genoa cemetery, with the Seal Funeral Home making all arrangements.
