Elizabeth Margaret Metcalf went into the arms of our Lord at 10:50am Sept. 16 surrounded by family and friends at Denali Hospice. Her sisters, Lois, Bev, Nena and Bertie, provided the best care they could. Liz appreciated her sisters during the past year as her health declined. Her faith in God increased.

She will be missed by many family and friends. She was a generous person always thinking of those in need. Her paternal grandmother, Sarah, loved her and named her "grandmother's blanket" in Gwich'in. Her daddy called her "little round girl" in Gwich'in. She was well loved.

She was born April 16, 1957, to George and Helen Tritt. She was their middle child. She grew up in Arctic Village, doing all the fun things like hiking on the mountains, swimming in the chilly slough, midnight baseball and camping on Dachanlee among numerous fun activities.

Elizabeth lived in Fort Yukon from 1966 to about 1971, when she moved to Fairbanks. She also lived in Anchorage, Venetie, Scammon Bay, California and Bethel. She was an adventurous spirit.

She was so proud of her new house they built in Arctic Village, but had to move to Fairbanks for medical care. She planned to move back. She lived her Gwich'in culture and was a fluent speaker and loved her Native food. Elizabeth told stories of her life in Arctic Village with fond memories.

She is survived by her siblings, C. John Christian, Lois Law, Beverly Peter (Samson), Nena Wilson (Thomas), Bertha L. Tritt (Rick) and Albert E. Tritt; aunt Rev. Mary Nathaniel; her only paternal uncle William Tritt Sr.; numerous cousins and friends and lots of nieces and nephews. Her cousins, Lillian Garnet, Sarah James, Brenda Gilbert, Mariah Wiehl and Jessie Tritt, and aunt, Mary Nathaniel, were some of the family with her before her death. Her special friends Jimmy Nathaniel, Ezzie and Brenda Peter are some of the ones who stayed close to her. I'm sure some names were left out.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen Tritt; siblings Mary Schmeider, Laura Rodriquez and George Tritt Jr.; and three sisters Alice, Charlotte and Lois Wend; by grandparents Rev. Albert and Sarah Tritt and Fred and Sophie Paul; maternal aunts, Betty Grassman and Esther Hill, and uncle Arnold Paul; her paternal uncles Rev. Isaac, Rev. Paul (Julia), Abel (Ellen) and Christian Tritt.

There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, Sept. 20, beginning with a visitation from 11am-1pm. The service will be at 1pm at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.

The family will be taking Elizabeth home to Arctic Village after the memorial service. It was her last wish to be buried close to family. The burial service in Arctic will be announced as the plans are solidified.

She wanted everyone to know God is real and to put their faith in Jesus. She has left imprints of her love and generosity in those she endeared and loved. Published in Daily News-Miner on Sept. 20, 2016.
