===================================

Horace Cook, succumbed to complications from a valiant, courageous battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson diseases. He fought with his mischievous sparkling eyes, and that million-dollar smile with inner strength that helped him fight all his adversities throughout his life. Born in New York City to Mildred Kenny Cook, he was raised by his late grandparents, Charles and Gertrude Kenney, and his 10 aunts and uncles in Geneva, NY. He attended Geneva Schools, becoming a renowned football player. Instead of pursuing a four-year athletic scholarship for football, he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. After his return from the Pacific he worked at Horton's Garage in Rochester, NY, then began his career in heavy equipment with LB Smith in Rochester, finishing his 20 years employment with their Syracuse branch. After retirement he started a small business transporting luxury cars to and from Florida for CNY area "snow birds" for the next 10 years. Cookie's greatest pleasure was riding his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycle, which spanned 50 years and many trips from Nova Scotia and down the Eastern seaboard. Listening to the old jazz greats and caring for his ever-faithful dogs, affectionately known as his "babies," kept him busy in later life. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Joan W. Diehl; sons, Jeffrey (Lisa) Cook of Rochester and Horace Kenney (Karen) Hudson of Walworth, NY; daughter, Connie Hudson-Brown of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Kaitlin and Jeremy Cook of Rochester, Shannon and Shalen Brown of Atlanta, GA; brother, Irving "Bud" Cook of Canandaigua, NY; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and caregivers. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Heritage Chapel, J Stanley Coyne Apartments on Loretto Campus, 750 E Brighton Ave., Syracuse. National Cremation Society is in charge of arrangements.
