He passed away at Willow Springs Alzheimer's Special Care Center on January 22, 2010.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Vivian; two daughters, Linda Gerber of Chandler, AZ and Kathy Felker and her husband Kyle of Quincy, CA; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister, Marge Compton of Cottonwood, and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was born on December 9, 1920, in Sausalito, CA, to John and Georgia Rouse. He was one of 10 children. He met Vivian, the love of his life, and they were married on October 16, 1942. He was in the United States Air Force and served in WWII as a B-25 Bomber pilot. His plane was shot down in China. He and his crew were captured by the Japanese. Dick was a POW for 22 months, and was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, he remained in the Reserve.

In 1951, he was called back into active duty. His duties took him all over the world. Dick retired in 1967 as a Major, after serving 26 years. He earned his teaching credential and taught high school math for 10 years at Red Bluff High School. He enjoyed golf, ham radio, his computer, and reading.

The family would like to thank the staff at Willow Springs for their loving care in the final years of his life.

A graveside service will be held at Redding Cemetery Park on Friday, January 29, 2010 at 2 p.m. with full Military Honors.
