Walter E. Mercer, 93, died November 20, 2016 at the Care Center in Douglas, Wyoming.

Walter was born May 28, 1923 in Broadwater, Nebraska the son of Walter L and Golda (Waggy) Mercer. He received his education in Broadwater graduating high school there in 1942. He married Dorraine Fredrickson in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on January 23, 1945. He entered the US Army in March of 1945. He spent time in Texas and Japan during WW II. He returned home in October of 1946 and went to work in Rawlins, Wyoming for Service Pipeline. He also worked for the Torrington, Wyoming Police Department, the Sunrise Mine, Couplamatic, Goshen Irrigation District and Holly Sugar. He retired in 1991.

Walter was a member of the Travis Snow Post #5 of the American Legion and Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Walter is survived by a son Keith Mercer of Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter Diana (Sidney) Shelburne of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two daughters-in-law Marlys Mercer of Alliance, Nebraska and Sue Mercer of Dacono, Colorado; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dorraine; two sons Brian and Dennis Mercer.
