The Celebration of Life service for James M. Langemeier, 61, of rural Mead will be 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.

He died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

He was born March 23, 1945, in Hooper to Arnold and Leona (Beck) Langemeier. The family moved to a farm north of Ithaca when he was a young child. They attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont where he was confirmed. He attended Ithaca Grade School and graduated from
Mead High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Deanne Carlson, on Aug. 25, 1963. He worked at Langemeier Locker in Mead after high school and began farming in 1965. Jim and Deanne had five children, James Jeffrey, Loral, Douglas, Kent and Holly. In 1965, they joined Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wahoo, where he spent many years on the church council. They moved their membership back to Trinity Lutheran in 1994.

He loved working with rural youth and was a 4-H leader for 25 years. He was a member of the Saunders County Livestock Feeders Association and many other farm organizations. Besides his love of farming, hunting and fishing, his delight was to spend time with friends, family and most of all, his grandchildren. In 1997, his health deteriorated with CML Leukemia. He received a bone marrow transplant
in January 1998, a recipient from his sister, Betty Anderson, to whom he was forever grateful. A lung disease transpired for his remaining years and he lived each day to the fullest.

Survivors include: his wife, Deanne; three sons, James Jeffrey (and wife, Ellen) of Marion, Texas, Douglas (and wife, Kristy) of Nebraska City and Kent (and wife, Stephanie) of Mead; two daughters, Loral (and fiancé Carl) Logrecco of South Lake Tahoe, Nev., and Holly of Wahoo; 17 grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Verla Carlson of Fremont; two brothers, Gerald Langemeier of Tucson, Ariz., and
Ralph Langemeier of Garfield, Ark.; a sister, Betty Anderson of Ridgedale, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

The Rev. Michael Meyer will officiate Monday's service. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo with family receiving friends from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Memorials have been established to Trinity Lutheran Church and the Jim Langemeier Memorial Youth Scholarship Fund.hhw
