Jucurle Rhodes Cox, 89, died Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl with burial in the Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Rev. Todd Sanders of Pearl United Methodist Church and Rev. John Carter of the Shiloh community officiated.

Pallbearers were Tommy Mayo, Gary Allen, Willie Rhodes, Mitch Childre, Rev. Gary Knight, John Kitch, Philip Shows and Wayne Humphreys.

Mrs. Cox was a lifelong resident of Rankin County. She was born March 2, 1917 in Pelahatchie, the daughter of the late Elma and Eva Rhodes. She was a descendant of the original settlers of Rankin County and grew up in the Shiloh and Gulde communities outside of Pelahatchie. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class at Pelahatchie High School in 1935. She resided in Pearl for over 60 years and was a founding member of Pearl United Methodist Church where she attended church until recently.

Mrs. Cox traveled all over the U.S., Canada, Germany, Switzerland and the British Isles, but was always ready to return home to Rankin County. She worked at Sears until 1977.

Survivors include: daughters Carol Ann Cox Smith and husband Denver of Pearl and Janie Cox Shows of Brandon; daughter-in-law Barbara Cox of Pearl; son-in-law Donald Johnson of Brandon; granddaughters Pam Johnson Kitch of Gulfport and Eva Gayle Cox of Pearl; grandsons Wayne Johnson of Brandon and Philip Shows of Hattiesburg; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Cox, son Billy Cox, daughter Betty Cox Johnson, grandson Charles William Cox, IV, her sister and two brothers. The family would like to extend special thanks to Mrs. Cox's caregivers over the last year.
