Rita McDonough James, age 96, a lifelong resident of Fairfield and devoted wife to the late Charles James, passed away peacefully while under the loving care of her family and home health aides on February 28, 2015.
Rita's memory will be embraced by her daughter and son in law, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to Charlie, her beloved husband, Rita will be welcomed into heaven by her dear son, Barry James. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Ruth Carroll, Joseph and William McDonough.
A graduate of Bassick High School in 1939, she attended Booth & Bayliss Commercial School. Rita worked as a bookkeeper for the Town of Fairfield, Fairfield University, and Fairfield Prep until her final retirement. A devout Catholic, she was a woman of strong faith. For many years she had been an active member of Fayerweather Yacht Club's Women's Auxiliary. Most importantly, Rita lived for the joy of her family.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 PM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will be celebrated on Thursday 10:15 AM in the funeral home and 11 AM in the Chapel of Saint Pius X, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield with Reverend Charles Allen, S.J. officiating. Her burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
