Pete was born in South Bend Indiana on October 5, 1921, and was the son of the late Walter Henry Halas and the late Anne DeSaix McGuirk Halas.
Pete and Dorothy and their family have resided in Fairfield since 1958. He graduated with a business degree and special awards from Drexel University, where he was a three sport athlete. Pete served as an infantry platoon officer in the 104th Timberwolf Division in World War II. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart, as well as the Bronze Star for valor. After his injury, he was assigned to the Allied headquarters in Europe, where he interviewed German generals and composed a portion of the Army history of the war. He returned to Chicago after the war, where he taught at a business school while obtaining a law degree at DePaul University. He was admitted to the Bar in Illinois, and began his thirty-year weekend career as an upcoming opponent game scout with the Chicago Bears. An immediate career in business development led to employment at Norden Systems, a Division of United Technologies. His long and successful career with United Technologies concluded with a position as Vice President for Government Relations.
In the local community, Pete was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served as a chairman of the United Way, President of the Greenfield Hill Little League, Vice President of the Fairfield Pop Warner program and a member of the Fairfield Zoning Board of Appeals. Pete enjoyed playing golf at the Patterson Club, and he and Dee especially loved the activities of Fairfield's Memorial Day Parade
In addition to his wife, Pete is survived by his seven children and their spouses, Francis Peter, Jr. (Mariellyn), Mary Elaine Scott (Tucker), Walter Patrick (Patrice), Dorothy Anne Pangrazio (Greg), Paul Joseph (Jacqueline), Barbara Joan and Elizabeth Anne Lenz (Scott), and his seventeen beloved grandchildren, Peter (Jess), Patrick (Heather), Annie, Paul, Michael, John, Jackie, Matthew, Sara (John), Danny (Kelly), Maggie, Lindsay, David, Stephen Joseph, Thomas and Eric and six great-grandchildren, Finn, Joseph, Caden, Trinity, Sofia and Fiona, his dear sister Dee Dee Ezekiel and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Halas was predeceased by his three brothers, Mike, George and Bim Halas.
