Salem - Ron, 79, passed away on Sunday at Salem Hospital due to complications of lymphoma and leukemia. He was born on March 24, 1937 at Salem Hospital to George Melvin and Ida Susan Bales. Ron graduated from Salem High School, served in the US Army, and worked for the Oregon Tax Commission/ Department of Revenue until he retired. On September 23, 1967, he married Alfreda Elaine Walter at Scio Baptist Church in Scio. They have two sons, Dwight and Duane. Ron's hobbies included astronomy, making model airplanes, reading, listening to Big Band music and Old Time radio shows, attending Volcanoes baseball games, and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his parents. Ron is survived by his wife of 49 years: Alfreda of Salem; sons: Dwight (Lissa) and Duane both of Aumsville; granddaughters: Hannah, Lydia and Sarah, who were very special to him; sister: Cheryl (Art) Tipon of Riverdale, GA; and brother: Robert Bales of Portland. The family would like to thank Dr. Strother and his staff at Salem Oncology, the nursing staff in the oncology unit at Salem Hospital, and Serenity Hospice, for all their assistance and care in battling his cancer.

Viewing will be Friday, November 18 from 9 am - 12 pm at North Santiam Funeral Service Stayton. A private family graveside will be held at Providence Memorial Cemetery in Scio. A reception will be held Friday, November 18 at 3 pm at Bethel Baptist Church in Aumsville. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
