John served in the Revolutionary War in Captain Joseph Spencer's Company in the 7th Virginia Regiment of Foot, commanded by Col. Alexander McClenachan Esq. He was medically discharged on 5 April 1778.

John was born to Philip Bush and Mary Bryan. He married Nancy Elizabeth Walton (possibly Watson). Nancy Elizabeth was born in Bedford Co, VA. Issue:

Captain Billy was a friend of Daniel Boone and Clark County, Kentucky adjoins Boonesborough in Madison County KY. Boone settled Boonesborough in 1775 and was a focus attracting others to settle Kentucky.
