He Passes Away Early Yesterday Morning at His Home in Rockland.

Samuel H. Derrick, father-in-law of ex-Representative Thomas R. Day, died at his home in Rockland yesterday morning, aged 73 years.

The deceased was one of the best known citizens of Rockland, where he lived most of his life and followed the trade of a house carpenter. He was born in Philadelphia on October 9, 1818, and in his infancy moved to Rockland. In 1845 he moved to this city, where he followed the trade of a cabinet maker until 1859, when he returned to Rockland and has lived there ever since.

At the breaking out of the civil war he 3enlisted in the Fifth Delaware Regiment and was stationed at Fort Delaware. He was mustered out August 12, 1862. In November, 1872, he was elected a Levy Court commissioner for a term of four years. He was a member of the order of Odd Fellows, having joined Liberty Lodge, in Philadelphia, in 1850. He was then transferred to this city and by card joined Hope Lodge, No. 21, of which he was a member in good standing until the time of his death.

On August 29, 1841, he married Elizabeth Henderson, who survives him. They had three children, of which only survives her father. Charles Atwood, the eldest, enlisted in Nield's Independent Light Artillery and died of disease contracted during the expedition on the Red river in 1864. Edwin M. Died in childhood. Mary E. is the wife of ex-Representative Thomas R. Day.

The funeral will take place to-morrow morning at 11 o'clock. Services will be held at the house. burial will be made at the Riverview Cemetery.
