Michael Joseph Connell, 67 of Portland OR died October 3, 2016 at his home in Portland OR. Michael was born December 31, 1948 and raised in Portland OR as the son of Frank James and Mary Louise (Curry) Connell.

Michael attended Wilson High School and graduated in 1967. He attended college at the University of Oregon until he was inducted into the United States Army. Michael was chosen to attend Infantry Leaders Course Phase l at Ft Benning GA and the Infantry Leadership Course Phase ll at Ft Lewis WA. After completion of Phase ll he was promoted to SGT. On April 24, 1970 Michael was on his way to Vietnam for combat duty. While in Vietnam, his unit made combat excursions into Cambodia as well as combat missions in Vietnam. Michael contracted Malaria and was sent to Japan to recover. He returned to The USA October 26, 1970.

Michael served as a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Camas WA for 16 years. Five of those years as Reserve Captain-Senor Reserve Officer.

Michael was a Salesman and sold everything from water meter boxes to TV and Appliances. He was last working for Standard TV and Appliance working right up until his health wouldn’t allow him to do so.

Michael was diagnosed with two types of cancer, Lung cancer, and cancer of the esophagus. These two cancers finally took his life after a brave and valiant fight.

He is survived by his Wife Stephanie of 40 years; daughters, Laura Connell and Michelle Fender; son, Shane Connell; stepsons, John and Justin Reed; brothers Patrick and James Connell; and sister, Cathy Connell.

He was preceded in his death by his mother Mary Louise Connell; father, Frank James Connell; grandparents, Frank and Ann Connell and Oliver and Marjorie Curry; aunt, Molly Black; and uncle, John Connell.
