Betty Lorraine Gibson West 4/7/1927 - 12/28/2006 Betty was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., the daughter of Minnie and Byron Gibson. Upon her parents divorce, Betty, age 13, moved to Los Angeles, Calif., with her mother and younger brother. She graduated from Los Angeles High School. At the age of 16, she started modeling for I. Magnum and continued modeling for the John Robert Powers agency doing ad commercials and runway shows. She later modeled for Neimann Marcus and Nordstroms. She met and married Ensign Raymond W. (Bill) West, USN on May 8, 1945 (V-E Day). Betty was a wonderful parent, loving spouse, and officer´s wife. Over the next 22 years, she ensured the junior officers wives learned proper etiquette and took them under her wing when the squadrons were deployed. She was an active member of the Navy Wives group, participating in and organizing fundraisers, family support groups and PTA activities. In 1967, Bill retired from the Navy and moved the family to Chicago, Ill. where he trained for a civilian career. Betty took on the new role of civilian businessman´s wife, never blinking an eye or losing a step. She and Bill moved to La Mesa, Calif. in 1971, continuing Bills second career in the contract furniture business. She became very involved with local businesswomen's groups, graduated from college with a degree in fashion and design, and started her own business, ÒReflection of SuccessÓ in 1982. She enjoyed doing seminars in San Diego and aboard cruise ships for the next 15 years, often accompanied by Bill after his retirement in 1991. She traveled all over the world and hosted several trips to Asia through Grossmont Junior College Extended Studies Program. Additionally, she taught adult education classes on dress, style, makeup, and hair for working and professional women. She was a member of The Fashion Group International, San Diego Zoological Society, and Friends of East County Performing Arts. As Betty´s health declined, she and Bill moved to Meridian, Idaho in 2004 to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Most importantly, she was a wonderful wife of 61 1/2 years to her husband, Bill, and a super mom to her children. She is survived by her four children, Bill (Audrey) West of Ankeny, Iowa; Terri Webley of W. Chicago, Ill.; Barbara-Lee (James) Jordan of Meridian, Idaho; and Beverly (Harold) West-Anderson of Nampa, Idaho; 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank Legacy Hospice and the Cremation Society of Idaho for their compassion and care. Legacy made Betty´s transition comfortable and loving, and the Cremation Society really helped the family during this time of transition. The family will privately inurn Betty at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boise, Idaho. Theyll have a celebration of life memorial in San Diego in the Spring of 2007.
