ROBY -- John C. Barrera, 54, died Saturday, July 24, 2004 in Abilene.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at Roby Cemetery in Roby officiated by Father Michael Rodriguez and Deacon Bill Butler, all under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home in Rotan.

Born, June 4, 1950 in Karnes City, he was the son of the late Jose Maria and Manuela (Castaneda) Barrera. John worked as a roughneck and later went to work as a farmer. He lived in Fisher County most of his life and married Elva Alaniz on Aug. 1, 1993 in Roby.

John stayed active with his work and also enjoyed fishing and family gatherings. John was a member of the Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Elva Barrera of Roby; three sons, Joe Paul Barrera of Rotan, Chris Alaniz of Roby and Jonathan Barrera of Mineral Wells; one daughter, Karen Aguilar of Abilene; two brothers, Ermando Barrera and Joe Barrera, both of Roby; one sister, Vickie Amador of Roby; two grandchildren, Kelsey Barrera and Randall Barrera; three step-children, Jessie Luna of Weatherford, T.J. Garcia of Fort Worth and Michelle Garcia of Arlington; and five step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece, Irene Amador.
