US Congressman from New York. He received a law degree from Columbia University in 1892 and became an attorney in Brooklyn. In 1898 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democrat and served one term, 1899 to 1901. May served on the New York City Board of Education from 1906 to 1910. From 1910 to 1911 he was a Kings County Assistant District Attorney. May served as New York Secretary of State from 1913 to 1914. From 1916 to 1921 he was Kings County Judge. In 1922 he became a Justice of the New York Supreme Court. May served on the bench until December, 1940, when he reached mandatory retirement age.
