Philip Carl Zimmerman, age 85 of Mankato, died August 17th at Mayo Clinic Hospital- Rochester, St. Marys Campus. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 22nd at Woodland Hills Chapel, Mankato, with Pastor Mark WIlms, officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Sunday, August 21st at Woodland Hills Funeral Home, Mankato and will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment with Military Honors will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato.

Philip was born June 13th, 1931 in rural Le Center, MN, to Albert and Irene (Holicky). He attended rural Grade School, and graduated from Le Center High School with honors in the Class of 1949.

He was recruited into the US Marine Corps on February 16, 1952, and completed the Reserves on February 15, 1960 with an Honorable Discharge. He received the National Defense Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and also, a Meritorious Service Award.

After the completions of numerous courses in Agriculture and Animal Science at the University of Minnesota, while helping on the 'home' farm, Philip purchased an adjacent farm and began a full-time crop and livestock venture. He also raised Registered Belgian Horses, and gave many hay rides and performed in parades and, plowing and corn husking events.

On February 6th, 1977, Philip married Winona Sharits, his Soul Mate; Love of his life and, Best Friend to the End- of a lengthy struggle with Dementia. Together they shared the joys of their farms, and retired in 2004 and moved to Mankato.

Philip enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening and sports. He was a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church, Le Center; Le Center Color Guard and, Life Member of Post 1803 VFW, Life Member of the American Legion, and Life Member of Forrest G. James MCL Detachment, Mankato. He also served as the Le Sueur Cty Council Adjutant, and Post 1803 VFW Commander.

Philip is survived by his wife, Winona.

Preceded in death by parents, Albert and Irene. Brother, Frances, and Brother-in-law Harry Ely.
