Pfc. David Winchester, was found dead Wednesday at his Fort Bragg barracks. He was 21 years old. From Adamsville, Ala., Winchester enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2015.

He was born July 5, 1995 in Jefferson County, a son to David Shiver Winchester, Sr. and Joy Fortenberry Winchester. He was a member of Forestdale Free Will Baptist Church.

Private First Class David Shiver Winchester, Jr. enlisted into the United States Army in April 2015 and completed Basic Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Winchester was assigned to Delta Company, 264th Medical Battalion at Fort Sam Houston, Texas where he attended his Advanced Individual Training as a 68A Biomedical Equipment Specialist and graduated on June 9, 2016. PFC Winchester's first and current assignment was with the 601st Area Support Medical Company, 261st Multi-functional Medical Battalion, 44th Medical Brigade in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

PFC Winchester's education includes a 2013 High School Diploma from Gardendale Christian Academy, Military Driver Training and the Biomedical Equipment Specialist Course. PFC Winchester's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Global War on Terrorism Service Ribbon, and the Army Service Ribbon.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Peggy Winchester and Ellis Fortenberry; Aunts, Rachael Click and Connie Fortenberry.

Survivors include parents, Joy Fortenberry Winchester and David Shiver Winchester Sr.; grandmothers, Marie Fortenberry and Earcell Liddell Winchester; sister, Amber Lawson; and nephews, Nealon Lawson and Alexander Anderton, son to Marcus Anderton; uncles, Chris Click, Clifford (Tracie) Winchester, Patrick (Michelle) Winchester, and Eric (Clarissa) Winchester. He was also dearly loved as a brother by his cousins, Sloan (Madei) Click, Molly (Westley & son Jedson) Booth, Christina Winchester, Recio Winchester, William Winchester, Alexis Winchester, Caroline Winchester, and Holly Winchester.

Funeral services will be held Friday November 25, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Forestdale Free Will Baptist Church, with burial in Crestview Memorial Gardens. Rev Mike Cox officiating, Visitation will be held before services for family at 10:30 am and for friends at 11:00 am. Crestview Memorial Funeral Home directing.
