CASTLETON, N.Y. - Virginia "Gini" (Stainback) Grogan, age 91, of Castleton and Averill Park, died on November 17th 2016.
Virginia as she was best known was born in Saranac Lake, N.Y. in 1925 the daughter of Ashley Forest and Virginia (Peacock) Stainback.
Upon the early death of her parents, she and her two siblings were raised by their maternal grandfather.
Virginia graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1943 and entered into nurses training at Albany Hospital (now Albany Medical Center Hospital) through the United States Cadet Nurse Corps as a proud member, graduating in 1947 as an R.N.
Her name is on the register of Women in Military Service for America Monument in Arlington, Va.
She worked at Albany Medical Center Hospital in various positions for 41 years and continued to work part-time in private practice for Dr. Robert Shoss for several more years.
Virginia for 60 years was the beloved wife of Howard L. Grogan who predeceased her on December 16th 2011.
She is also predeceased by her brother, Thomas Stainback; and sister, Florence Wenke.
Virginia was a member of the Albany Medical Center School of Nursing Alumni Association, Women's Memorial, Washington D.C., and the Rensselaer Seniors.
She was an active member of the Emmanuel Reformed Church of Castleton and vice-president of the resident counsel at Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home.
Arrangements by the Rockefeller Funeral Home on 165 Columbia Turnpike in Rensselaer, N.Y.
Interment following the service at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
