Edna Earl was a long term care giver to various family members over the course of her life, part of that time doubling as a stay at home mom to two children, and then later in life working outside the home to support her family. She obtained her driver’s license at age 40 and went to work for the State of North Carolina at age 42. Edna Earl finished her 25 year career with the State at the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission. Edna Earl was married and widowed twice in her life; first to Billy Gorden Green, Sr., for 49 years, and then in the twilight of her life to Zebulon Vance Greene for 5 years. She was a smart manager, a caring friend, a loving mother, a proud grandmother and great grandmother, and a devoted Christian at Temple Baptist Church, where she was a charter member and Sunday School teacher for many years.
Edna Earl is survived by her son, Bill Green and wife Vivian Tilley; her daughter Sarah Green Flanary and husband Ralph; her granddaughter Amy Flanary-Smith and husband Brian Smith; her grandson Steven Flanary and wife Deanna; her step grandson Jay Tilley and wife Abby; and nine treasured great-grandchildren. Her younger brother, Richard May, predeceased her.
Visitation will be at the Bryan Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, at 11:00 am on Monday, November 21, 2016 with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 1417 Clifton Street, Raleigh, NC 27604.
