Edward Fletcher Swinney, banker; born, Campbell County, Va., Aug. 1, 1857; son of John H. and Celina F. (Jasper) Swinney; educated in state school of Blacksburg. Va.; married, Howard County, Mo., Nov. 14, 1882, Ida Lee. Removed to Fayette, Mo., in 1875 and entered the employ of the Hendrix Bank; went to Colorado, Texas, and was cashier of the Colorado National Bank, 1883-1887.
Removed to Kansas City, Mo., in 1887, and entered the employ of the First National Bank of Kansas City, being its cashier until 1900, when elected president of the bank, which position now holds. Director Missouri Savings Bank, Fidelity Trust Co., Kansas City Electric Light Co., Metropolitan Street Railway Co., Chicago & Alton, Chicago Great Western, and Kansas City Southern Railroad companies; treasurer Kansas City Terminal Railway Co. Episcopalian. Treasurer Kansas City Board of Education; president American Bankers' Association. 1904-1905. Clubs: Kansas City, Kansas City Country.
