He was united in marriage to Sandra Skelton Moss on April 12, 1958. Together, they were privileged to share 58 years of wonderful adventures.
Ed lived a full life of passion and adventure. Ed graduated from Broome Tech College, in Binghamton, New York and was employed at IBM as a systems analyst for over 35 years. In the 1960s, while at IBM, he had the privilege to work with NASA on Project Mercury. After leaving New York they spent many years in Coral Springs Florida. Ed retired at the age of 50 and they moved to their home in the Florida Keys. They later moved north to their log cabin in the Great Smokey Mountains. Ed and his wife, Sandy, spent many years volunteering for the National Park Service as lighthouse keepers and assisted with turtle research at Dry Tortugas National Park on Loggerhead Key. In 2002, Sandy and Ed were presented the President's Volunteer Service Award for their contributions and service for the park service. Ed loved to sail and achieved the title of Merchant Marine Officer with the U.S Coast Guard. As Captain of his beloved sailing vessel, 'Snapdragon'. He and Sandy cruised the eastern Caribbean exploring the Florida Keys, the Abacos along the Crystal Sea, and south to the Exumas. In addition to many sailing excursions, Ed and Sandy traveled to Africa for a three week photo safari. Ed was an avid fly fisherman and a master wood carver. Ed also had a love for music. He enjoyed playing the bass with the Praise Band at church and bluegrass being his favorite. With all of Ed's joys in life, none compared to the joy of his family. He was extremely proud and raised them to believe that they could do anything in life that they put their minds to. Ed cherished his loving wife for all her contributions and showered her with flowers at every occasion. Ed enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren sailing, playing chess, and just enjoying each moment. Ed will be fondly remembered and his smile will be greatly missed.
Ed is survived by his wife, Sandy; five children, Cathy Elliott and husband Phillip, Cindy Martsch and husband Martin, Kim Sullivan and husband Christopher, of IL, Joseph Moss and wife April, of AR, Karen Flores and husband Orlando, of Willard, MO; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Daniel, Shawn, Sandra, Allen, Emily, Nicholas, Lauren, Isabella, Autumn, and Summer. In addition to several cousins, nieces, nephews and many more family and friends too many to list.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Marcia and Kaye Vanda, Vivian and her husband Constantine Varvitsotis.
Visitation will be held from 12:30-until service time, Saturday, November 20, 2016 at Renew Methodist Church, Willard, MO. Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM, at the church, with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Renew Methodist Church. Arrangements under the direction of Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Ash Grove.
