Age 99, went home to be with the Lord November 15, 2016, two days before her 100th birthday. She was born November 17, 1916 in Tuscaloosa, AL, the daughter of Lovell and Dolly (Lewis) Newman. On November 16, 1985, she married Gordon Martin and he preceded her in death October 13, 2001. She was a member of St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include: her daughter Dorothy Jones of Ypsilanti; stepdaughter Willella Patterson of Ypsilanti; two grandchildren, Linda Palmore and Elaine (Eric) Washington; five great grandchildren; three great-great grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Maggie Van Hoose, Reese Marshall and Rosie Turner. The funeral service will be 11 am Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church, 561 Second Avenue, Ypsilanti with the family hour from 10 am until time of service Tuesday. Sr. Pastor Arvis L. Alexander will officiate. Burial will follow in United Memorial Gardens.
