Wayne Elder Gaffney, SC - - Billy Wayne Elder, 70, of 702 W. Smith Street, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at his residence. Born in Greer, he was the husband of Maxine Wallace Elder, son of the late Nell Tooley Elder, and was raised in the home of his late grandparents, Henry & Harriett Tooley.

He attended Blue Ridge High School and Greenville Technical College, and retired from the S. C. Highway Patrol. He was the former Blacksburg Police Chief, worked for Cherokee County Code Enforcement, and Suminoe Textiles, was a U. S. Marines Corps veteran, and member of Silica Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Dr. Billy Wayne Elder, Jr. and wife, Kimberly, and Jason Wallace Elder, both of Gaffney; a sister, Barbara Elder Horton of Sherrills Ford, NC; a grandson, Seth Wallace Elder; a special aunt, Joann Cannada and husband, Willie, of Greer.

He was preceded in death by a brother James T. Elder. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Silica Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Elder officiating.

Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens with military honors. Memorials may be made to: Silica Springs Baptist Church, 2032 Pacolet Highway, Gaffney, SC 29340.
