CRAWLEY – John Edward, 83, Johnstown, a philanthropist, an innovator builder and an envisionary, passed away April 29, 2015, at home, surrounded by his children. Born Nov. 3, 1931, in Johnstown, son of the late Joseph and Lillian (Davenport) Crawley. United in spirit, his beloved wife and true love of 60 years, Friederika “Erika,” on Nov. 30, 2012; son, Thomas; daughter, Martina “Sissi”; grandson, Charlie Palmer; and numerous brothers, sisters and loved ones. Celebrated in life by his children, Lilliana “Sandy” Swagger, and husband, Dale; Josef Crawley, and wife, Gloria; Rebecca Palmer, and husband, Mike; Conny Crawley and Heidi Jones; and Hans Crawley, and wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Christofer, Mittina, Savannah, Jessica, Eric, Maxmillion, C.C. and Sheldon; and great-grandchildren, Cha-Cha, Christopher “Bob,” Bradley, Jasper, Javon and Wynter. Also survived by brother, Donald Crawley; and sister, Bonnie Crawley-Ray. John served his country proudly as an Airborne Ranger, Special Forces, U.S. Army, by making more than 300 jumps during his time serving in Intelligence and National Defense Services during the Korean War. He loved jumping out of perfectly safe planes. He was a proud member of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 66 (retired), and 33rd Degree Free Mason and Shriner of the Imperial Council, Temple 158. He was a devoted and faithful husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He shared his wisdom, love and time. A simple man who exuded a silent confidence, intelligence, grace and great spirit of generosity to others. There was great admiration and love by his family and many friends, John will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to thank everyone who loved, respected and honored John during his life. A special thanks to Ralph, his senior citizens lunch bunch; Jennifer, his hospice nurse; St. John Gualbert Cathedral; and his numerous social groups. Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 4 p.m. Saturday at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd., the Very Rev. James Crookston, officiating.
