Don was born June 14, 1934, in Independence to Wilbur Leona and Marguerite (Sherman) Sell. He had worked as a homebuilder, owning and operating Best Drywall and RD Sell Construction in Independence for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Unity Church of Independence, a 32nd degree Mason, the Ararat Shrine, Order of the Quetzalcoatl, Jackson County Shrine Club and Royal Order of the Jesters Court 54, who will be conducting a rose ceremony. He married Christine (Infranca) Dec. 20, 1996.
His survivors include his wife, Christine Sell of the home; a son, Gary Sell and wife, Carla, of Independence; a daughter, Donna Nichols and husband, Glen, of Independence; a brother, Leon Sell and wife, Phyllis, of Blue Springs, Mo.; granddaughter, Kristi Vallejo of Grain Valley, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Kylie Vallejo; stepchildren, Greg and Kim Nickel, Stephenie and Ron Halterman, and Allen and Jenny Nickel; and two stepgrandchildren, Nicholas and Jessie. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Lucille Sell, in 1994.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, Independence, 816-252-7900. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
