Margaret Ann Chewning Paytes, age 103, died at her residence in Fredericksburg on Sunday, November 13, 2016. She was the daughter of the late, Adolphus and Alice Chewning and sister to four brothers and three sisters.
Margaret was also preceded in death by her husband, John H. Paytes; two sons, Norman and his wife, Joyce Paytes and son Thomas Paytes; Alfred "Tony" Paytes and his daughter Betty Ann Paytes; also sons-in-law, Arthur "Jake" McWhirt and W. Clyde Johnson.
She is survived by her children, John R. Paytes and wife Margery, Nancy Quann and husband, Lawrence, Alice McWhirt, Margaret Skidmore, Doris Via and husband, Donnie, and Judy P. Johnson; daughter-in-law, Betty Paytes; as well as 16 grandchildren, Debra Paytes, Donna Paytes Turnbow, Norman and Tammy Paytes, Greg, Barry & Brian Quann, Jody, Tracy, & Jeff McWhirt, Tandi Paytes, Dwain & Troy Skidmore, Tina Via Rebennack, Kevin Via and Ernie Johnson; 32 great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Ashley, Haley & Austin Paytes, Jason & Betsy Reeder, Mary Alice Chilton, Zac Turnbow, Whitney Pullin, Benjamin, Timothy, & Samuel Quann, Judd Shelton, Delaney & Peyton Cooper, Conner, Corbin, Mykaila, Hannah & Jacob McWhirt, Keith & Kimberly Henderson, Megan & Josh Rebennack, Tanner Via, Christopher, Brandon, Haley & Katelyn Skidmore, William & Margaret Johnson, and David Schrooder; and seven great-great grandchildren, Shane Henderson, Harper Mills, Emma Williams, Kennedy Pullin, Michael, Elizah, & Nathanial Schrooder.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, Locust Grove, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fredericksburg. The Reverend Jerry Hall will officiate.
