Diane K. Hernandez, 62, of Kennewick, died March 25 in Kennewick. She was born in Idaho Falls and lived in the Tri-City area for 32 years. She was a retired member service representative. Diane Kay Hernandez beloved, mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother was born February 25, 1949, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

She grew up in Blackfoot, ID, and graduated from Snake River High. She was the third child of Philip J. "Jack" and Ora Steffler. She married in her early twenties and had her son Philip Niles while living in Witchita, KS.

Diane moved to Moses Lake, WA, in the early 70s, where she settled in with her son and obtained a beautician's license. She met her husband Eusevio (Wedo) Hernandez in 1974 and together they operated their hair salon in Moses Lake. They moved to Kennewick in 1979, where they opened a hair salon and operated it until Wedo retired. Diane then worked for Gesa Credit Union in the Tri-Cities for nearly eleven years.

Diane is loved by many and will be best remembered for her sense of humor, her big smile and a heart that touched the lives of many. Her gentle way and quiet voice will forever have an effect on our lives. Her son was the light and joy of her life. Her love of family created a strong bond with her family and it has been a lesson taught and passed on to the many who loved her. Diane always put others first. Her heart was as big as her smile. She is missed already and will be remembered always as a loving daughter, mother, wife, sister and grandmother.

She is survived by her son, Philip Niles Hernandez, wife Alyson and son Caleb Moreno. Mother Ora F. Steffler; three brothers; Gary (Verla) Steffler, Philip J. (fiancee Tara Macky) Steffler Jr. and Paul Steffler; four sisters, Paulette (Fil) Rivera, Sandra Green, Julia (Johnny Batten) and Jackie (John) Sielaff, twenty-five nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband Eusevio (Wedo) Hernandez, father Philip J. "Jack" Steffler, brother Brian Steffler, and brother-in-law Alan Green.

Graveside services to be held Friday, April 1, 2011 at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick, WA.
