Grady Barnett, age 86, of Pigeon Roost, passed away on Tuesday, November 15th, 2016 at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Dove and Mary Etta Honeycutt Barnett and the husband of the late Ethel Bennett Barnett, who passed away in 2012. He was also preceded in death by sisters: Zettie Honeycutt and Versie Bennett and brothers: Marshall and Harley Barnett. Grady worked with the Forest Service for a number of years until later becoming a carpenter, where he built homes for over 53 years. He was from a musically talented family, loving playing various instruments and singing with various members of his family.

Surviving are his daughter, Juanita Laws and husband, Bruce, of Burnsville and special friend Sheila Tipton Whitt of Burnsville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 18th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. A private burial will be held in the Bennett Cemetery.

The family would like to say a special thank you to all the staff at both Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation and Hospice of Yancey County for the wonderful care given to Grady and requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Yancey at 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.
