Selmer Johan Weness was born on March 23, 1905, to Erick and Martha Weness on the family farm southwest of Adams where his son, Mark, lives now.

He was baptized in the Little Cedar country church by Rev. Rasmussen and confirmed in the town church by Rev. Runsvold. He has served as a Deacon, Trustee, and was also an usher.

He attended grade school in the country school about one mile north of his home and then attended school in Adams after the new public school was built.

Selmer worked as a farm hand for many years. He worked for Nick Bissen for three years and Oscar Bergene for twelve years.

On June 12, 1945, he married Wilma Hardecopf at Little Cedar Parsonage and farmed the home farm. To this union five children were born: Karen Doughan of West Des Moines, IA; Shirley Westfall of Atlanta, GA; Gary of Chatfield; Brian of Blue Earth; and Mark on the home farm, Adams. He has eight grandchildren which are his pride and joy.

Selmer was active in farming and served many years on the Adams Co-op Creamery Board, the County and Regional American Dairy Association, and the American Milk Producers, Inc.

He is now retired and has lived in Adams for six years. He still goes out to the farm almost every day and enjoys helping out there.
