Mary Alice Standing, daughter of Alfred A. and Rebecca Nicholson, was born in England at Stockton-on-Tees, March 25, 1865, and passed away July 4th, 1949, rather suddenly, at the home of her son, Arthur, at Primghar, Iowa, at the age of 84 years, three months and 10 day.s

She came to America with her parents in 1887. They settled at Rochester, New York, and she lived there until her marriage to Charles Standing in 1893.

She leaves to mourn her passing all seven of her children, Arthur Standing and Amy Haworth of Primghar, Ioaw; Alice Johnson of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Bernard and Albert of Earlham; Elsie Osborn of Dexter, Iowa and Eva Plagman of Peterson, Iowa; one brother, Arthur Nicholson of Haddonfield, New Jersey; two sisters, Maria Yole of Appalachie, Virginia; and Francis Standing of Beaumont, California; eighteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.
