Born in Adams Township

Howard Milton Thompson was born on November 16, 1921 at Adams, Minnesota to parents Oscar Thompson and Edith Naversath Thompson. He was baptized by the Reb. O.C. Brenna on December 11, 1921, and confirmed on May 10, 1936 by Rev. Alfred Breivik. He attended the Adams Public Schools and graduated from Adams High School in the Class of 1939.

On June 13, 1940, he was united in marriage to Miss Cleo Heimer by Rev. H.M. Normann, at Cresco, Iowa. To this union were born three children, Robert, Beverly, and Barbara. For several years they resided in Austin where Howard was employed at the Marigold Dairy and then at the Hormel Packing Company. Since 1943, the family has lived on their farm 3-1/2 miles west of Adams. Howard has been a life-long member of the Little Cedar Lutheran Church, serving on several of the church boards. At the time of his death he was a member of the Board of Trustees, and a member of the Little Cedar Cemetery Committee. He has always taken an active part in civic and community affairs.

On the morning of June 1, Howard and children Robert and Beverly were involved in an auto accident one half mile east of their farm home. They were taken to St. Olaf Hospital in Austin where Howard passed away on the morning of June 7th from injuries sustained in the accident from which he never regained consciousness.

Howard was a loving and devoted husband and father. Always friendly and open hearted, he was known and loved by the entire community. Those in need found in him a ready helper and friend. His happy disposition and ready smile were characteristic of his entire life.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 9th from the Little Cedar Lutheran Church at Adams with Rev. M.L. Witte officiating. Mrs. M.L. Witte at the organ, and Mrs. Orville Nordsletten and Mr. H.E. Lunde furnished the music for the service. The large number of friends and relatives that attended were ample evidence of the large place that Howard occupied in this community. The board of trustees of the Little Cedar Lutheran Church served as honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers were Martin Prescott, Kevin Sass, Harvey Peters, Paul Anderson, John Anderson and Robert Hanson.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Cleo Thompson and three children, Robert, Beverly and Barbara; his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar J. Thompson of Rose Creek; two brothers, Rev. Orin Thompson of Cutbank, Montana, and Glen Thompson of Rose Creek. His mother preceded him in death in 1935. At the time of his passing, he had reached the age of 34 years, six months, and 21 days. Blessed be his memory.
