Jewel "Jo" Grindstaff Wilson, age 90, of Spruce Pine, passed away on Monday, November 14th, 2016 at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Ina Pendley Grindstaff and wife of the late Lewis "Red" Wilson who passed away in 2011. She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Dean Grindstaff who passed away in 2006; sisters: Mary, Lucille and Norene and an infant sister and brothers: Ralph and Ambrose. She was the oldest member of Berry Chapel Baptist Church and will always be remembered as a caregiver who raised many children throughout the community.
Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 17th in Berry Chapel Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Williams and Rev. Earl Carver, Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the church. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday in the church cemetery.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Hospice of the Blue Ridge and the Brian Center for the wonderful care given to Jo. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
