Walter Ivan "Popeye" Halfhill, 78, of Mt. Braddock, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Halfhill; three brothers, Harold "Buck," James and Phillip; and two sisters, Jane Ribniscky and Virginia Balsley. He is survived by his wife, Lois; four daughters, Regina "Jeanne" Nicklow and her husband, Sam, Judith Keilbach and her husband, John, Anita Abbott and her husband, Mike, and Vanessa Wilson and her husband, Kenny; grandchildren, John and Francis Keilbach and their wives, Michael Abbott, Nathan Nicklow, Kendra Wilson Knopsnider and her husband, Katie Wilson and Vashti and Josiah Abbott; great-grandchildren, Joey Keilbach, Evalynn Knopsnider, Dylan Keilbach, Kobe Keffer and Caroline Knopsnider. He is also survived by two brothers, Loren and Hugh Halfhill and their wives; five sisters, Edith Lowery, Mary Helen Halfhill, Shirley Coleman, Nancy Watson and Karen "Honey Lou" Matthews and their husbands; and nieces and nephews. Popeye was employed 25 years at Anchor Hocking, was an avid hunter and member of Lucky Ten Hunting Club of Elk County and was a faithful member of Pechin Chapel Church. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday in BURHANS-CROUSE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Connellsville St., Dunbar. Additional visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to the hour of service at 11 a.m. Friday in Pechin Chapel with Pastor Lee Maley officiating. Interment will be in Sylvan Heights Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pechin Chapel Fellowship Hall Building Fund, 474 Ferguson Road, Dunbar, PA 15431.
